Come and see!

There are so many ways to think of our lives. As a journey, as a destination, as a series of random events. Sometimes we know where we are going, and other times we don’t quite know until we start to part the brush with our walking through it.

So it is with my placement at St. Paul’s. I can look at the past and see the myriad of ways that God has led me here. But I don’t know what’s around the corner. We are all too small for that. But, I rejoice in knowing that this is a normal way that God works with his humble people. One of my first sermons here was on John 1 where John the Baptist looks at Jesus and says, “Look! The lamb of God who carries away the sin of the world!” And then a couple of John’s disciples start following Jesus - because they just have to - and Jesus turns, asking them what they are seeking. They stutter out a “Rabbi, where are you staying?” They were seeking Jesus, seeking the victorious Lamb of God who would carry away their sins. But they couldn’t see it all yet. Jesus knew that, and said to them, “Come and see.”

He keeps saying that to me and to you. I don’t know what the future holds, not at all. But I believe the future distant (which is also the present) foreseen by the apostle John in Revelation 1, 4 & 5: Jesus, the victorious Lamb of God, worthy of worship, worthy of a lifetime of following. Let us see.
